I demand some continuing adventures in comicbook form.

Plus there wouldn't be a laughter track

My secret shame: No 1

I actually kinda' like the uniforms in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Though that collar on Deforest Kelley does look pretty stupid.

Shut up.

"It's like Blade Runner..."

Fellow countrymen/ladies, there are apparently plans to demolish Camden Market and replace it with a mall full of corporate chain stores, clearly if this happens the Terrorists have won.

But what household appliance would he use to kill it?

Interesting fact I learnt at the weekend: The CIA once killed an Elephant with LSD

I am sending my pitch for a fourth Borne film, wherein Matt Damon fights a tripping war Elephant, to Universal.

Yes it's pointless, but it's a very pretty piece of pointlessness.

Crossing Midnight Intrigue!

So a few years ago I made some mini-comics for the Bristol Comic-con on the subject of Enjo Kosai (Colour digital versions here here here here and here, and yes they are a little cheesy in places, not to mention some awful artwork, but I was young, well slightly younger...). Mostly I just gave them to people who's stuff I liked. Years pass and as one in roughly five people who read Mike Carey's Crossing Midnight I had a look at the solicitation for August when DC put them up and saw this -

Written by Mike Carey
Art by Eric Nguyen
Cover by J.H. Williams III
Beginning a new storyline with guest art by Eric Nguyen (SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE)! Having arrived in Tokyo, Kai falls in with the enjokosai — middle- to high-school-age girls who go on dates for money. No sex is required, and in Japan, it’s completely legal. But a supernatural slasher is voicing disapproval in the bloodiest ways imaginable…
On sale August 22 • 32 pg,

Well one of the people I gave a mini-comic to was, yes, Mike Carey. Now it's pretty unlikely that he remembers it (I doubt anyone actually read those things), and I'd assume that he just found the information while researching the culture, but just maybe I influenced a Vertigo storyline, and that'd be pretty cool!

Please note: I'm not accusing Mike Carey of stealing my intellectual property or anything equally silly as they were meant to be educational, plus I'm not sure why anyone would want to steal those ideas in the first place.

Full report after I've gone to my local comics emporium in a few weeks.

Fanatastic Four: Tribute

A little tribute piece to Mike Wieringo. I don't think I have anything new to say in his praise that hasn't already been said better by people who knew him better so I won't.

Mike Wieringo

Mike Wieringo died today aged 44. I enjoyed his work and he was a bigger influence on me than I ever expected. I wish I didn't have to talk about him in the past tense.

There's a nice gallery of the sketches he did just for fun here.

Sexica from Multiple Warheadz

Picked up a copy of Brandon Graham’s Multiple Warheadz the other day, it's all quirky hipster Moebius and nudity, a combination which comics (and every other medium) need more of.
Now to find a copy of King City.

TeamSmithy recommends... Crecy

Scene: The Headmasters office of a small public school in Essex during the early 1980's.

Headmaster - Now Warren, do you know why you're here?
Warren - No sir?
Headmaster - Hmm, I think you do Warren, your history teacher came to speak to me earlier.
Warren - My history teacher sir?
Headmaster - Yes Warren, he tells me that you've defaced your text book.
Warren - Well I thought it could do with some livening up sir.
Headmaster - You seem to have scrawled a large number of offensive words over the text.
Warren - Offensive words sir?
Headmaster - Yes Warren, some particularly offensive words.
Warren - You mean like cu...
Headmaster - Yes that one stands out, you seem to have used it a lot.
Warren - Well they would have used it all time in those days sir.
Headmaster - That may well be true Warren, but the history lesson is no place for such language. On the same subject, while this drawing of the death of Edward the Second may well be accurate, I think you know that it also isn't suitable for the classroom. Do you understand Warren?
Warren - I think so sir, history can be very interesting, but I shouldn't let that interfere with me learning about it. Is that right sir?
Headmaster - Hmmm. While you're here Warren you wouldn't also care to explain why we found these cigarettes in your blazer pocket would you?
Warren - I'm as surprised as you are sir, I thought I'd smoked them all at lunch sir.

Fun and informative, it'd be really quite nice if Ellis did a whole series of these, I think he has a little too much on his plate at the moment though, pity.
